for Scharff.

the middle-ages Tisvilde was surrounded by luxuriant forests and fertile land.
The forests were later cut down leading to sand drift, which ravaged many villages
and good soil for several hundred years. Tisvilde survived as it was in a sheltered
position. At the end of the 17th century outlying farms
were built on the
land surrounding Tisvilde. One of these was årlandsgården, built in
1788 in an area which is today known as Godhavn.
later became a milestone in Danish art-history as William Scharff, the painter
and professor of the Art Academy, spent 8 years of his childhood with his grand-parents
on Hårlandsgården. These childhood years were a great influence on
Scharff. In all his work we find motifs from Tisvilde and Tibirke hills, his interpretation
of light through the branches of fir-trees being particularly well known.
Hårlandsgården is run by Anni Rosenstand, who preserves the atmosphere
of the farm. In her sitting-room the doors, beams and window-frames are precisely
as Scharff painted them in one of his early paintings.
